HISTORY OF THE GROUP

 

1.         The NCC came into existence in the Kumaon Region in Jul 1954, in the form of an Indep Coy at Nainital. The Group HQ was subsequently raised in Jul 1964 to monitor NCC in the region. Lt Col RS Grewal assumed command of this Group on 22 apr 1965, as the first Group Commander.

 

2.         All major units i.e. at Nainital, Almora, Pithoragrh and Haldwani, except 24 UP Girl’s Bn NCC at Almora, were already in existence at the time of inception of Group HQ and continue to exist at the same locations. On 1st July 1965, a Girl’s Bn, designated 15 UP Girls Bn NCC, was added at Almora. This Bn was subsequently re-designated as 24 UP Girls Bn NCC in 1978. An Indep Coy NCC was established at Sainik School, Ghorakhal on 01 May 1970 while 1 UA R & V Sqn NCC, was raised on 19 Mar 2004 at Govind Ballabh Pant University, Pantnagar on 01 Mar 2005. On               2008, 1 UK Air Sqn NCC came into existence in Pantnagar and currently 81 UK bn NCC is under Raising at Bageshwar.

 

3.         Upon creation of Uttarakhand state, on 09 Nov 2000, the Group became part of this newly created state and a part of Uttarakhand Dte on 08 Aug 2006 on raising of new Dte.
